Olaplex – Does It Really Work?

I tend to approach anything that comes with hype with extreme caution.

Beauty influencers tend to blow things WAY out of proportion and can result in good hype but low integrity.
I have regularly had Olaplex applied during the bleaching process in the salon but since I had been getting highlights continiously for a while now, I felt it needed some extra TLC.

What is Olaplex?

Olaplex is basically a bond multiplier. It is not a conditioner or even a deep conditioner. In the most simplistic, non technical terms; Olaplex rebuilds the hair from within as opposed to the outside of the hair shaft. It rebuilds the molecules of the hair that have been damaged through bleaching and other means.

How do I use Olaplex?

No 3 is an ‘at home treatment’. I wash my hair with shampoo to cleanse it of any oils and product build up. I then apply a small amount all over my hair and comb through with a wide tooth comb to ensure every strand of hair is covered.
This is not a ‘conditioning’ treatment, it is far more, it is a ‘rebuilding’ treatment. So the longer you leave this on the better.

I apply Olaplex and leave it on overnight and wash it out the following morning. The difference in hair quality needs to be seen and felt to be believed. I will honestly say it works. Im currently trying to grow out layers of my already SUPER fine hair to give it thickness.

For MAXIUM effects and benefits, get an Olaplex ‘In Salon’ Treatment, where they will apply Olaplex No 1 & 2, these are far more concentrated versions of No3. Then use No 3 take home treatment to reinforce the treatment you got in salon. The best thing about it is that the effects of Olaplex does not wear off, It will only be broken down by chemical bleaching or other methods such as the use of hot tools!

I feel the effects will be far more noticible on Blonde then say, a brunette. The whole magic of Olaplex is how it rebuilds strands broken down through chemical processing.

This is my hair after coloring and before a fresh set of extensions go in this Thursday:

My hair is not overly damaged, it moreso gets very dry.

From this pic you can see where the body/thickness of my hair is and then where it is more sparce towards the ends. It is worth noting when I first started getting extensions, some of those broken layers were up by THE ROOT of my hair and I had SIGNIFICANTLY less hair on one side of my head. All from consistant bleaching and minimal aftercare.

The Extensions (Platinum Hair extensions) I used, REALLY let my hair breathe and grow because I was only ever styling the ends/the extensions and I was leaving my own hair alone.

Needing to care for the extensions made me more aware of how I needed to care for my hair over all.

Due to the chemical processing of my hair I use Olaplex 2/3 times a week. I am so eager to try the Shampoo and Conditioner that they have just released.
